Choosing A Skylight – The Options You Should Consider

Skylights are windows which are placed-on the roof. They’re used to allow or let natural light enter, and may also be used-to allow in ventilation. Usually, there are certain factors which one needs to consider when selecting a skylight. These factors can include; placement, size, energy efficiency, type and functionality.

Choosing
When choosing a skylight, the size is a key factor since if the size is large then it’ll bring in a lot of heat and light. Usually, the rule says that the skylight will brighten the room 20 times its’ size. Another factor which is just as-important is placement of a skylight. Placing the skylight where there’s lots of sun exposure may lead to the house/room getting over-heated, especially in the warm climates. Basically, a eastern or northern exposure-position is recommended.

Energy efficient window-selection is also very important when you are installing your skylight. Glazing is 1 method of enhancing energy savings. Skylight glazing usually comes in glass or plastic, however, other solar heat control glazing are also available. Plastic-glazing is usually inexpensive, and much sturdier than the other glazing materials. But, plastic glaze lets ultraviolet rays inside, which may result in the discoloration of the objects that are inside a room. Glass skylight-glaze are much more expensive, however, they’re also much more durable & they do not discolor. Read more

The Easiest Way To Change A Roof Tile

The replacement of roof tiles is a common occurrence, with many households needing replacements due to cracked tiles, or the tile doing a disappearance act! Instead of paying for a professional to do the job, why not do it yourself? All you need is the appropriate tile and a tall enough ladder.

To get the correct tile, take a tile with you or a photo of the tile to a roofing supplier, who should be able to find you the right match.

Once you have the tile, it’s time to get onto the roof. Use a stable ladder and for extra precaution, have someone spot you below. If you feel as if the roof isn’t safe, then please do not go any further and contact a professional.

When you get to the broken tile, use two pieces of timber to hold up the tiles that overlap the broken/missing one. When sufficient space is made, use a brick trowel and lift up the broken tile and then slide it out.

Place your replacement tile in the correct position using the brick trowel and then make sure to place the overlapping tiles back into their original position.
